Abstract
UNESCO'nun Dünya Mirası Listesi'ne aday olan Birgi, geleneksel mimari dokusunu günümüze kadar koruyabilmiş nadir somut kültürel varlıklara sahip İzmir’in Ödemiş ilçesine bağlı yerleşim yerlerinden biridir. Birgi’de bulunan doğal mimari kalıntılar bu eski kentin yüzyıllar boyunca çeşitli medeniyetlere ev sahipliği yaptığının kanıtıdır. Taşıdıkları orijinal özellikleri ile bölgelerin tarihini ve mimari özelliklerini yansıtan bu değerli somut kültürel değerler çeşitli kültürlerden turistlerin çekicilik unsurları oluşturmaktadır. Bu tarihi yerleşim yerinde Kültür ve Turizm Bakanlığı tarafından resmi olarak tescil edilmiş 100'ün üzerinde tarihi yapı bulunmaktadır. Günümüzde 18 yy. ve sonraki yüzyıllara ait Anadolu Beylikleri ve Osmanlı İmparatorluğu döneminin mimari ve somut kültürel özelliklerini yansıtan tarihi konakları, han, hamam, cami, türbe, medrese ve çeşmeler bulunmaktadır. Çalışmanın amacı, Birgi tarihi yerleşimini öne çıkaran somut kültürel miras öğeleri üzerinden tanınırlığı ve marka değerini arttırarak turistik çekicilik açısından potansiyelini ortaya koymaktır. Ayrıca, bu alanın 2021 yılında UNESCO Dünya miras statüsüyle tescillemek için ön protokol başvurularının yapılmış olması turizm potansiyeline odaklanmasının önemini ortaya koymaktadır. Bu bağlamda çalışmanın kapsamı, zengin ve çeşitli somut kültürel mirası alanlarına ve tarihi yapılara sahip Birgi yerleşim yeridir. Araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemi kullanılmış ve nitel veri toplama tekniklerinden doküman analizine başvurulmuştur. Çalışmanın bulgularına göre, UNESCO kapsamında uluslararası değere sahip olan Birgi tarihi dokusu ve yapısı çok fazla bozulmamış tarihsel bir yerleşim yeridir. Buna göre, birçok medeniyete ev sahipliliği yapan Birgi, sürdürülebilirlik ve turistik çekicilik açısından belirli bir potansiyele sahip olduğu ve bu potansiyelin bölge ekonomisini güçlendirebileceği sonucunu ulaşılmıştır. Ancak bölgede var olan konaklama imkânlarının yetersiz olması üzerinde durulması gereken bir konudur.

Abstract
Birgi, which is a candidate for UNESCO's World Heritage List, is one of the settlements with rare tangible cultural assets that have preserved its traditional architectural texture until today. The natural architectural remains found in Birgi are proof that it has been home to various civilizations for centuries. These valuable tangible cultural values, which reflect the history and architectural features of the regions with their original features, constitute the attraction elements of tourists from various cultures. There are more than 100 historical buildings officially registered by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Today, there are historical mansions, inns, baths, mosques, mausoleums, madrasas and fountains that reflect the architectural and cultural characteristics of the Anatolian Principalities of the 18th century and the period of the Ottoman Empire. The aim of this study is to reveal its potential in terms of touristic attractiveness by increasing the recognition and brand value through the tangible cultural heritage items that highlight the historical settlement of Birgi. In addition, the fact that preliminary protocol applications were made to register this area with UNESCO World Heritage status in 2021 reveals the importance of focusing on tourism potential. In this context, the scope of the study consists of Birgi, which has rich and diverse tangible cultural heritage sites and historical buildings. Qualitative research method was used in the research. In the research, document analysis, one of the qualitative data collection techniques, was used. According to the findings of the study, Birgi, which has an international value within the scope of UNESCO, is a historical settlement with its historical texture and structure intact. Accordingly, it has been concluded that Birgi, which is home to many civilizations, has a certain potential in terms of sustainability and touristic attractiveness and this potential can strengthen the economy of the region. However, the lack of accommodation facilities in the region is a situation that needs to be improved.
